As the industry changes, so must we.

Tile Roofing Industry Alliance Lobbyist, Craig Brightup, has provided the latest government relations update and activities on the following from February 2025:

TRIA DC Fly-In

The TRIA DC Fly-In team numbers eight and will have dinner on Monday, April 7, to prep for April 8 Capitol Hill meetings and other functions culminating with a visit to NAHB the morning of April 10.

Corporate Transparency Act Paused

After months of ping-ponging between on-then-off-then-on, the Treasury Dept.’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) announced on Feb. 27 that it’s pausing CTA enforcement while drafting new regs narrowing its scope.  FinCEN intends to issue a new rule by March 21, the latest extended date for submitting Beneficial Ownership Information no longer in effect.

House Budget Resolution Passes

On Feb. 25, in their first major test of the new Congress, House Republicans passed a budget resolution 217-215 with only one defection (Rep. Thomas Massie of KY).   This lays the framework for President Trump’s agenda using reconciliation to extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts and boost defense spending in exchange for trillions in spending curbs.  TRIA signed a attached letter to the House urging support for the budget resolution.

Senate HELP Panel Advances Labor Nomination

On Feb. 27, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee voted to send the nomination of former Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR) for Sec. of Labor to the full Senate.  Three Democrats on the panel voted for Chavez-DeRemer and one Republican voted no.

Policy Changes at the National Labor Relations Board

On Feb. 14, President Trump’s Acting General Counsel for the NLRB, William Cowen, issued a memorandum rescinding more than a dozen policy memoranda issued by his Biden Administration predecessor, Jennifer Abruzzo.  Though GC memos are not binding law, they act to inform NLRB Regional Offices of the GC’s priorities in enforcing the National Labor Relations Act.  The rescinded Abruzzo memos include those concerning employment non-compete agreements and employers’ recognition of union elections.
