Attendees will see examples of how one company has learned to think outside the box and solve complex problems on a job site.
About John Chan – John is the owner of The Durable Slate Company – a historic roofing company that employs over a hundred people in several states. Their projects have involved iconic buildings such as the Ohio State Capitol, Florida State Capitol, Library of Congress, several presidential homes, and even work abroad such as the House of Parliament in Trinidad. He has traveled all over the US and the world delivering seminars on historic restoration, sales, marketing, increasing production, goals attainment, etc.
He and his company have won numerous awards: Central Ohio’s Craftsman of the Year, Columbus’ BBB Torch Award, the Gold Circle Award for Project of the Year in the US(5 times), and they are the first construction company to ever win the BBB’s International Award for Marketplace Ethics, and the first and only American company to win the International Award for Roofing Project of the Year.
John has also been active as a steward for the roofing industry by being on the Board of Directors of the National Slate Association as well as serving as President. He has lectured on all types of subjects regarding historic roofing and restoration work at such places as: Clemson University, University of Cincinnati, Tulane University, Traditional Building Conference, International Preservation Trades Conference and many more.
