A customer with a unique home came to me for some help. An all concrete structure built in 1958 during the Cold War. It has a nuclear bunker and fallout shelter, a built in Safe-room, concrete foundation, concrete walls (interior and exterior) concrete slab roof deck and of course a concrete tile (second) roof. It's a 2.5/12 slope, so below a slope we consider functional for a tile roof. The concrete roof deck has some type of coating that was applied in the early '80s when the "new" roof was installed, and they have no current or history of leaks. We are avoiding any disturbance to the roof deck, With a big disclaimer paragraph and a proposal for a new roof, we agreed to replace some broken tile and decided to install an adhesive step flashing at the chimney. Waiting on the mason to cut in counter flashing. Looks good on the black tile? A curiosity for sure. John

1. OSHA violation- ladder must extend 3 feet.

2. A flashing is required at the deck level AND the tile for all penetrations.
